My gorgeous little girl turned 2 last weekend. Where has the time gone?! We threw a little tea-party, sadly indoors due to the terrible English weather, but the pretty bunting made the church hall look the part. We had a bouncy castle for the little ones, Pimms for the big ones, and cake for everyone :)

A lovely time was had by all. Thanks to everyone who came to celebrate and to my family for all their help setting up, tidying up and making tea!

(There were more than 2 children at the party but I don’t like to post pictures of people’s children without permission!)

Many thanks also to All Wrapped Up who supplied the bunting vintage tea-sets, and Kids Castles for the bouncy castle. Both companies come highly recommended! The bunting, possibly the prettiest I’ve seen, was made by Little Bundles. I think I might be ordering some for Sophie’s bedroom :)

A few weeks ago, on one of those rainy days we’ve had too many of recently, I headed into London to shoot this gorgeous couple’s engagement session. They are having a pretty countryside wedding at the end of May, and so wanted to have a London engagement shoot in contrast. (Hopefully the weather will be contrasting too!) We met at their beautiful and stylish flat, which provided a wonderful backdrop for the first part of their shoot. And we got to stay dry for a little longer! After shooting in and around the flat, we headed to Inner Temple, hoping it would be a nice quiet location on a rainy Saturday, only to be met by a Da Vinci Code tour! After the crowds subsided we got some gorgeous shots under the arches, which reflected beautifully in the rain. Sometimes rain can be a blessing in disguise ;)

I have a slight obsession with beautiful chandeliers and gorgeous mirrors, so these stunning examples just had to be photographed! D & G, you have a very beautiful, stylish flat, and most excellent taste :)

This shoot was one of those moments where I had to pinch myself. I was in one of the most beautiful cities in the world and I had a gorgeous couple who weren’t just willing to be photographed, that was actually our purpose for being there. I got to do what I love the most, in one of my favourite places, I have the best clients ever and I love love LOVE my job!

Anyway, back to the point ;) We had spent most of Friday shooting around Venice, in the gorgeous misty light and amazing sunset. (See part 1 here). We probably had plenty of great pictures… But Saturday morning dawned bright and clear, the sun was shining, the colours were beautiful and I had an insatiable appetite to take more pictures. Wendy and Damion had really enjoyed the experience on the first day and we’d all commented on how quickly the day went. So we decided to meet up again for a few more hours to explore more canals, bridges, alleyways and arches on the other side of the Grand Canal. I’m so glad we did!

Damion is actually a photographer himself, so I love this shot of him photographing his beautiful fiancée.

We were SO blessed with amazing light on both days of the shoot…

Destination Engagement shoots are definitely the way forward!  So much fun and images that can’t fail to be beautiful. Shooting in Venice was one of the highlights of my photography career so far, and I’m keen to repeat the experience.  Anyone fancy Paris? Barcelona, maybe Rome? ;) I have yet to shoot a destination wedding, now that really would be a pinch-yourself moment, but I have the opportunity to assist an amazing wedding photographer on two weddings in Madrid later this year. I am pretty excited about that!

Last weekend we got together for some Italian food and a few glasses of prosecco, and to view the photos. It was wonderful to relive the experience and catch up on the exciting wedding plans.

Thank you Wendy and Damion for the most amazing few days, for being so lovely, so good with Sophie and so much fun to photograph and just spend time with. I can’t wait to see you two get married :)

In January 2011 Damion got down on one knee in a gondola in Venice and asked Wendy to be his wife. She said yes. When I met with Wendy & Damion to chat about their wedding photography, and we talked about the engagement shoot, I mentioned that sometimes we go back to the place where you got engaged to do the shoot… and an exciting plan was hatched :) We have relatives near Venice so Dev and Sophie came along for the ride too, and one ridiculously early morning in January the five of us flew to Venice. The morning of the shoot dawned misty and cold, with the most delicious light, turning already-beautiful Venice into a dreamy pastel paradise. Wendy and Damion braved sub-zero temperatures (with their coats off at times!), kissed til their lips fell off, walked til their legs fell off and were a photographer’s dream to shoot. We had SO much fun that when the following day the sun was shining and the light completely different, we met up again for another go ;)   (see part 2!) Wendy and Damion are a super-lovely couple, so much fun to spend time with and I genuinely felt like I came back with two new friends :) So here’s day 1; the dreamy set:

We found a cosy trattoria to warm up in at lunchtime, and of course sample some Italian culinery delights. As is the norm in Italy, lunch was a leisurely affair, and we were somewhat surprised to find the glow of golden hour upon us already. When we turned the corner into St Mark’s Square to be greeted with this, I was a very happy photographer indeed :)

As the sun dipped behind the buildings we had a little natural light left to shoot in the arches next to the Doges Palace, where another couple seemed to think it was their turn to kiss for the camera. Ahem, I know Venice is a romantic city but please, get a room!

It would’ve been rude not to…

After haggling with a number of unscruplous gondoliers (there is a standard price set and they are not meant to go above it!) we found one that was ready to do his last trip of the day for the right price. Although my begging to go down the Grand Canal towards the fast-fading light fell on deaf (well, foreign!) ears, and we headed into the dark inner canals. At least we got to go under the Bridge of Sighs, and popped out further along to see the Rialto Bridge.

Sigh… so romantic. And aren’t Wendy and Damion such an adorable couple?! Pop back soon for part 2!

Abi and Ajay recently had the second of their two amazing weddings; the first being a colourful Indian wedding back in May 2011 (you can see those pictures here) and the second an elegant, monochrome, winter wedding. It took place at the beautiful Rookery Hall in Cheshire, on the only day it snowed this year. The snow made for some rather magical wedding photos, and a very atmospheric candlelit reception. Abi looked stunning in her Alan Hannah wedding dress and gorgeous bespoke Magpie Vintage earrings. Ajay was every bit the handsome groom in his Richard Smith Bespoke suit. There were super-cute little bridesmaids, roaring log fires, opulent chandeliers and stunning table-settings. And did I mention the SNOW?! I’ll let the pictures tell the rest of the story…

I think that last image is my favourite wedding photo ever. It’s almost magical, ethereal Narnia-esque… I was just a little bit pleased :) Thanks Abi for braving the cold and snow for this!

Thank you Abi and Ajay for having me as your wedding photographer. I loved every minute of both your amazing weddings, and have loved getting to know you and your families over the past 18 months. You are a super couple and so perfect for each other, and I wish you all the best for the future and your married life together!

A few weeks ago I travelled up to the beautiful city of Edinburgh for Jo & Rob’s engagement shoot. I was particularly excited as it was my first ever trip to Edinburgh, and I was going to be allowed to take pictures of a gorgeous couple in this stunning city ALL DAY! It was great to get to know Jo & Rob better and chat about their very exciting wedding plans, meet their cute dog, and enjoy some rather delicious french food and wine. They are such a warm and friendly pair; it was like a weekend spent with friends. Rob has an energy and zest for life that you can’t help but catch. I don’t think I stopped smiling all day.

I was blown away by how beautiful Edinburgh is – even the ‘ordinary’ bits. We started the shoot taking the gorgeous Mimi for a walk in the gardens and pretty streets around Jo & Rob’s flat.

I love Jo and Rob’s co-ordinating outfits, and the pop of colour. These amazing blue garage doors worked perfectly to complement the red and bring out Jo’s sparkly blue eyes! I love the way Mimi is looking away ‘embarrassed’ in this first shot.

A quick outfit change and we headed into the city centre, and up Carlton Hill. Where we were met with the craziest hailstorm I have ever seen. Jo and I took shelter behind a wall and cowered under her umbrella. Meanwhile Rob, a true Scotsman and clearly hardened to the weather, climbed up onto the monument to observe the scene! When the hail had subsided Jo joined him for a few photos. There’s no easy way up there – thanks Jo for clambering up in the wet!

On the way for a spot of lunch, we walked past Caroline Castigliano’s Edinburgh boutique. Swoon!

I love Jo’s cute red shoes. And just wait til you see her wedding shoes!

Everywhere we turned there was another amazing piece of architecture or stunning doorway…

What a cute pair. And I *love* Jo’s pretty coat. And the matching flat-caps (Jo’s was a gift from Rob that day – and a timely gift in the icy winds!)

I adore all the pretty pastel colours in this beautiful cobbled street. Which, coincidentally, is home to Walker Slater, the tweed specialists where a number of this year’s grooms have found their wedding suits, after seeing Kenny’s tweed suit in this fab Peak District Wedding shoot.

We were finished, tired feet and aching legs from walking aroung a hilly city all day, and racing the clock to get me on the train back to Manchester. Except we then turned a corner and saw this. I jumped up and down and squealed a little and we captured these gorgeous, romantic, golden hour haze photos. And I am SO glad we did!

What a gorgeous couple, and so much fun to spend tim with and photograph! I can’t wait for their amazing wedding in a few weeks’ time. I know Jo is going to look stunning in her dress, and with all the boys in kilts and a few other surprises, there are going to be some amazing photos!

A few weeks ago I met with Sandra & Dave for their engagement shoot. I’d heard rumours of props, and was just a little excited to find their car filled with colourful helium balloons, a picnic blanket, a picture frame and a bicycle! I do love it when couples have creative ideas for their engagement shoots :) We had a fun afernoon enjoying the grounds of beautiful Tatton Park in Cheshire, where Sandra and Dave will get married in just a few weeks’ time. They are a super-lovely couple and great fun to photograph! Here are some favourites from the shoot…

In part 1 of Yasmin & Andalib’s Arley Hall wedding I told you all about their romantic ‘first look’, Yasmin’s amazing sparkly shoes, and how we batttled sideways rain to get some beautiful photographs in the grounds of Arley Hall. I also mentioned the sense of family being so important in this wedding. I don’t know if I have ever seen such close families, and both Adam and I were quite moved by the sentiments expressed in the speeches. (both wanting parenting tips from Yasmin & Andalib’s parents!) It was one of those moments where you know that you are immensely privileged to be doing your job. But before the speeches came the ceremony, and that was pretty special too. The civil ceremony took place first, followed by a Ba’hai ceremony. Which was completely amazing. It included beautiful readings, wonderful moments and incredible music, played by Yasmin’s father on the violin. So part 2 of this wedding begins with Yasmin and Andalib, walking together down Arley Hall’s impressive staircase, about to get married…

I absolutely love these reflection images, taken by Adam of ARJ Photography who assisted me on the day. Ok, I admit it, I’m a bit jealous, I wish I had taken them!

After the ceremony we headed for Arley Hall’s beautiful library, the perfect setting for some more romantic portraits and the family photos.

Yasmin is such a stunning bride. Breathtaking!

I love the little touches to Andalib’s outfit; the pipe, pocet-watch and cool Ted Baker shoes complete with stripey socks!

There’s something quite Royal Wedding about these family group photos, don’t you think? In fact, there was an amusing mix-up at Arley Hall that day, as one of the staff mistook Yasmin and Andalib for the royal couple in a photo they were using during the day, and alerted the police, who arrived to check everything was under control!

The reception room was so warm and atmospheric from the warm glow of the candles, Yasmin and Andalib spent some time greeting their guests before the (extremely delicious!) meal and speeches.

The speeches were amazing; some of the best I’ve heard. The perfect balance of funny and touching, intelligent and articulate, with some beautiful emotional moments. And again, this wonderful sense of family and love. Not a dry eye…

The evening party was a mix of traditional Persian music and dancing, and entertainment provided by fab wedding band ‘Groovy Revolution’.

What a wonderful, beautiful, wedding!

Yasmin and Andalib, thank you so so much for choosing me to capture your special day. It was an immense honour to be your wedding photographer and I loved every minute of your wedding! Thank you to everyone for making myself and Adam feel so welcome and part of the day. Yasmin and Andalib had a wonderfully atmospheric winter wedding at Arley Hall in Cheshire, between Christmas and New Year. I loved this wedding! So full of love and happiness, and such amazing, welcoming families! Yasmin looked completely stunning in a tiered lace Vintage Couture wedding dress, and Andalib every bit the handsome groom in a tailored tweed suit.

As the wedding was at 4pm on a dark December day, the couple decided to have a ‘first look’ and some of their photos earlier in the day. This is quite common in the States but still pretty rare in the UK -  the couple see each other for the first time on their own before the ceremony. It can be a really tender, beautiful and intimate moment, away from the busyness of the wedding day. The plan was to then have a few hours in the beautiful grounds at Arley Hall shooting the couple portraits… However the weather had other ideas! We still managed to get outside for a few photos, before the heavens opened and the rain came down (sideways. Rendering umbrellas pretty much useless!) At a venue as beautiful as Arley Hall, the bad weather outside only meant we made better use of the gorgeous interior.

Laura and Ryan are getting married in April in the beautiful Lake District. They are a fab couple and super-creative too, I had some serious house-envy after our last meeting! It is beautifully decorated and full of pretty details (I wonder if Laura might have shares in Cath Kidston?!). Laura is an artist and designer, and if the house is anything to go by, the wedding is going to be gorgeous – full of creativity and thoughtful touches. And in such a lovely lakseide setting too *sigh*. I’m very much looking forward to it :)  Back in the autumn I spent a lovely couple of hours with Laura and Ryan in Castlefield, having coffee, chatting wedding plans and getting them used to being in ront of the camera before their big day. Here a few of my favourites…

Castlefield is a fab location for shoots, full of interesting textures and backdrops. I’m always looking for backgrounds that will complement my subject’s colouring, and so these blue/grey pillars were perfect for bringing out both Laura and Ryan’s amazing sparkly blue eyes. I love Laura’s pretty swallow blouse too :)

Back in October the lovely Vanessa and James got married at Hey Green Country House Hotel in Yorkshire. It was one of those gorgeous golden autumnal days, and as I drove across the Pennines to meet Ness and her bridesmaids in the pretty village of Holmfirth the sun was streaming across the hills and making everything it touched sparkle and shimmer. Later that day it made Ness sparkle and shimmer in her stunning wedding dress with beautiful beaded detailing. In fact, everything about the day seemed to be bathed in a gorgeous golden glow, both literally and metaphorically. Ness and James are a gorgeous couple, inside and out, and a lot of fun to be around. This was going to be a very good day…

Ness and James live in a really cute cottage in Holmfirth (that’s where Last of the Summer Wine was filmed, don’t you know!) with an amazing spiral stone staircase and pretty views over the town. I met James and his groomsmen there for a few prep shots before heading over to Hey Green Hotel, where Ness and her bridesmaids were being preened to perfection (alongside drinking champagne and eating rather a lot of chocolate brownies!).

Ness’s Art Couture dress featured a beautiful antique beaded V-neckline and back, and I think you’ll agree she looked absolutely stunning.

The fab blue bridesmaids’ dresses were an Etsy find, handmade and customisable, they could be tied in different ways.

The ceremony was beautiful with many touching moments, I’m not sure there was a dry eye in the house (mine included!)

A gorgeous vintage frame with pretty fabrics, ribbon and mini-heart pegs (which you can get from Cox & Cox) makes for a lovely table-plan.

The speeches were some of the funniest I have ever heard, but with some really beautiful and heartfelt moments too. Wonderful moments celebrating family, cue more tears (from me again!)

Time to make the most of that gorgeous light just before the sun goes down…

I am in photography heaven in this kind of pretty light, especially with such a gorgeous couple to photograph. And a field with lovely long golden grass…? *sigh*

After the first dance, James had a little surprise for Ness and serenaded her with a beautiful song.

Erica Stacey. Initially attracted by the delicious chocolate truffles on the stand, I was then blown away by the gorgeous vintage dresses. This was my no. 1 highlight of the show – gorgeous 1920s and 1930s wedding gowns, handmade in the UK, and so so pretty.

Jean Ellis Designs. Stunning milinery, tiaras, headpieces, gorgeous combs, pretty feathery numbers, venetian masks… One of her pieces was featured in a shoot for Vogue in Rome, in a tribute to Valentino’s final show {wow}. It was an honour to meet such an amazingly talented lady! Any bride, mother-of-the bride or guest looking for a statement piece, look no further.

H F  Couture. Exquisite as always. The lovely Jane loaned me one of her gorgeous headpieces for the Love My Dress Soiree and I felt like a princess all evening. Tiaras, headpieces, hair-pins, brooches and hats… H F Couture custom-make the prettiest sparkles a girl could ask for :) The stand featured beautiful laser-cut butterflies by Cutture London (check them out for the most amazing luxury statement wedding stationery!).

Red Floral Architecture. Mat Hepplestone is a quite simply a floral genius and creates the most decadent and extravagant flower displays imaginable. Just stunning.

Pretty Little Trio. Super pretty vintage crockery hire and wedding styling. Lovely!

Harry Jon Hair and Make-up Artist. The lovely Claire is a fabulous hair stylist and make-up artist, who I have had the pleasure of working with a number of times. She will ake you look a million dollars on your wedding day :)

Peter Herd Cakes. Beautiful and delicious luxury wedding cakes. Don’t they look amazing!

Love Gets Sweeter.  For beautiful videography look no further. Charlene also bakes a mean chocolate brownie ;)

Cat Hepple Photography. Cat is one supremely talented lady, with an eye for all things stylish and glamorous. I adore her photography and she also happens to be one of my very good friends (and we enjoyed a rather lovely evening catching up over fod and wine that night!) I am in awe of her ability to wear heels all day at the show, especially considering her (extremely pretty) stand had no chairs!

Lightech lighting and Mahood Marquees… (I think – please correct me if I’m wrong!) Cat and I swooned over this stunning table setting while in the queue for cocktails. Much as I love all the shabby-chic vintage garden party styling, it was nice to see something sleek and stylish and modern too. Come on brides, how about something chic and contemporary like this at your wedding?

There were many many more fabulous wedding suppliers there, and not nearly enough time to get round everyone (do make a day of it if you go next year!). I hope that’s been a little inspiration for your wedding, and make sure you visit the suppliers websites for more information.

There are not many things that would get me out of my cosy bed on a cold, rainy day between Christmas and New Year. But the beautiful wedding of a lovely couple is definitely one of them :) Yasmin and Andalib had their wedding at Arley Hall in Cheshire, one of my favourite wedding venues. Sadly the weather meant that we couldn’t make use of the beautiful grounds on this occasion, but we found plenty of gorgeous locations inside for photographs. The wedding itself was one of the most wonderful I’ve experienced; from Yasmin’s stunning lace dress and sparkly shoes, to the amazing Ba’hai ceremony and Persian music and dancing, with Arley Hall’s gorgeous surroundings and delicious food… But mostly because Yasmin and Andalib are one of the loveliest couples you could hope to meet, with equally lovely families. There were many tears during the ceremony and the speeches, (myself included!) and as I drove home I was left with a renewed conviction that love and family are the most important things in the world. I’m looking forward to sharing the full set of images soon, but for now, here are a few favourites that I hope will give you a flavour of this wonderful day.

But the beautiful wedding of a lovely couple is definitely one of them :) Yasmin and Andalib had their wedding at Arley Hall in Cheshire, one of my favourite wedding venues. Sadly the weather meant that we couldn’t make use of the beautiful grounds on this occasion, but we found plenty of gorgeous locations inside for photographs. The wedding itself was one of the most wonderful I’ve experienced; from Yasmin’s stunning lace dress and sparkly shoes, to the amazing Ba’hai ceremony and Persian music and dancing, with Arley Hall’s gorgeous surroundings and delicious food… But mostly because Yasmin and Andalib are one of the loveliest couples you could hope to meet, with equally lovely families. There were many tears during the ceremony and the speeches, (myself included!) and as I drove home I was left with a renewed conviction that love and family are the most important things in the world. I’m looking forward to sharing the full set of images soon, but for now, here are a few favourites that I hope will give you a flavour of this wonderful day.
